All Wilderness Medicine courses are taught through the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School, or WMI of NOLS. WMI is the leader in wilderness medicine, providing the highest quality education and information for the recognition, treatment, and prevention of wilderness emergencies. WMI’- teaching philosophy is to emphasize treatment principles and decision-making, not the memorization of lists. Scenario-based teaching is employed as a complement to lecture style instruction. This is why students learn so well and feel confident in employing their newly acquired judgment and skills. More information and more listings at nols.edu/wmi
Some of the courses listed here are sponsored by the University of Idaho's McCall Outdoor Science School. WRI posts these courses as a professional courtesy to help promote the best first aid courses in Idaho. One of our most frequently asked questions after a river rescue class is what is the best 1st Aid class to take. Wilderness Medicine Institute is the leader of evidence-informed wilderness first aid.
Wilderness Rescue International does sponsor WMI courses on request. One popular option is to do a combo course of a 2-day WFA class with a 3-day River Rescue course.
